A blog about hurricane windows, impact windows, impact resistant windows, tenant improvement and much more…
With hurricane season fast approaching, now is the time to start thinking about installing hurricane windows to protect your home. According to the National Hurricane Center, the Eastern Pacific hurricane season begins on May 15 and the Atlantic hurricane season begins on 1 June. Both seasons run until November.
Every household should prepare for the season by creating a family disaster plan. Make sure you know which rooms in your house are the safest to shelter in (ideally one with impact windows), and also identify safe spots in your community.
Ensure your disaster supply kit is fully stocked with non-perishable foods for 3 to 7 days, including snack foods, canned foods and juice, as well as cooking tools, fuel, and paper plates and utensils. Include toiletries and hygiene items, including for babies and elderly people, as well as clothing, rain gear, and, of course, water (1 gallon per person per day).
Other essential items include flashlights and batteries, a first aid kit, medicines, blankets and pillows, spare keys, toys and games for children and pet care items (an ample supply of canned food and water, a cage or leash, and any medicines). Place all your important documents such as medical records, insurance documents and bank account information in sealed plastic sleeves or bags.
